Project Description

The Social Justice and Environmental Quality - Denver (SJEQ-D) is a multidisciplinary environmental justice research project aiming to reduce air and noise pollution caused by major construction projects in North Denver, as well as understand the impact of construction on community members' well-being and ability to move around the community. As part of this study, 50 participants carry around a personal air monitor for a one-month period four times over 1.5 years. The DLA student's role in this project will focus on calibrating, maintaining, and deploying personal air quality sensors in the community. Parallel to sensor deployment tasks, the DLA student will be involved in data processing and management.听

Special Requirement

  • Ability to drive to Denver twice per week (class-schedule permitting)
  • Ability to interact regularly with research participants, provide training, communicate via Google Voice when issues arise and to coordinate study activities
  • Available for 3-4 hour blocks twice per week during sensor deployment season
  • Preferred Coursework: Statistics, Measurements Lab (or similar), Fluids
  • Some experience with coding for data analysis/statistics (R, Python, Matlab)
  • Experience speaking conversationally in Spanish is a plus
