Kiyomi Kawakami joined the CU faculty in August 2018. She earned MA degrees in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (Eastern Michigan University, 2003) and Japanese Linguistics (University of Wisconsin-Madison, 2006), and completed substantial work toward a PhD in Japanese Linguistics (ABD, comprehensive examination completed in 2010), also at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Before coming to CU, she taught Japanese at a number of different institutions, including the University of Iowa, Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University, the University of Wisconsin-Madison, the University of Michigan, and Eastern Michigan University.
