Jen Leight and Emi Tokuda publish "Multifunctional bioscaffolds for 3D culture of melanoma cells reveal increased MMP activity and migration with BRAF kinase inhibition" in PNAS
In this work, Jen (now at Ohio State) and Emi (now at Seattle Children's Hospital) investigate the effect of cancer drugs on matrix metalloproteinase (MMP) and metabolic activity of melanoma cells at various stages of metastasis. Their findings suggest that current clinical drugs can upregulate MMP activity, causing increased metastatic cell migration. !
