Drawing from my ethnographic field work with farmers, ranchers, gardeners, and homesteaders in this community, this chapter focuses on how people are conceptualizing the meaning and significance of their land-based livelihoods. I explore how people draw from concepts such as connection, reciprocity, independence/interdependence, respect, sustainability, experiential learning, and improvement when navigating their day to day relationships with land, plants, animals, and people. In seeking an understanding of how people’s values shape their relationships and motivate their participation in a local food system, we can learn about what it means to try to act beneficially on agricultural ground.</p></div> </div> </div> </div> </div> <h2> <div class="paragraph paragraph--type--ucb-related-articles-block paragraph--view-mode--default"> <div>Off</div> </div> </h2> <div>Traditional</div> <div>0</div> <div>On</div> <div>White</div> Sat, 17 Oct 2020 17:29:06 +0000 Anonymous 1695 at /anthropology Wednesday, October 28, 2020 - Breadth of Human Occupation in the Central Plains with Carlton Gover /anthropology/2020/10/06/wednesday-october-28-2020-breadth-human-occupation-central-plains-carlton-gover <span>Wednesday, October 28, 2020 - Breadth of Human Occupation in the Central Plains with Carlton Gover </span> <span><span>Anonymous (not verified)</span></span> <span><time datetime="2020-10-06T10:41:54-06:00" title="Tuesday, October 6, 2020 - 10:41">Tue, 10/06/2020 - 10:41</time> </span> <div> <div class="imageMediaStyle focal_image_wide"> <img loading="lazy" src="/anthropology/sites/default/files/styles/focal_image_wide/public/article-thumbnail/carlton_gover_wednesday_october_28_20_0.jpg?h=f39df164&amp;itok=QyqCo3CF" width="1200" height="600" alt="Museum of the Pawnee Nation Announcement Flyer"> </div> </div> <div role="contentinfo" class="container ucb-article-categories" itemprop="about"> <span class="visually-hidden">Categories:</span> <div class="ucb-article-category-icon" aria-hidden="true"> <i class="fa-solid fa-folder-open"></i> </div> <a href="/anthropology/taxonomy/term/146"> News &amp; Events </a> </div> <div role="contentinfo" class="container ucb-article-tags" itemprop="keywords"> <span class="visually-hidden">Tags:</span> <div class="ucb-article-tag-icon" aria-hidden="true"> <i class="fa-solid fa-tags"></i> </div> <a href="/anthropology/taxonomy/term/235" hreflang="en">Diversity</a> <a href="/anthropology/taxonomy/term/225" hreflang="en">Events</a> </div> <div class="ucb-article-content ucb-striped-content"> <div class="container"> <div class="paragraph paragraph--type--article-content paragraph--view-mode--default"> <div class="ucb-article-content-media ucb-article-content-media-above"> <div> <div class="paragraph paragraph--type--media paragraph--view-mode--default"> <div> <div class="imageMediaStyle large_image_style"> <img loading="lazy" src="/anthropology/sites/default/files/styles/large_image_style/public/article-image/carlton_gover_wednesday_october_28_20.jpg?itok=1XptItSb" width="1500" height="1875" alt="Museum of the Pawnee Nation Announcement Flyer"> </div> </div> </div> </div> </div> <div class="ucb-article-text d-flex align-items-center" itemprop="articleBody"> <div><p>Our graduate student Carlton Gover will be presenting on the breadth of human occupation in the central Plains, from the arrival of the Clovis populations to the re-introduction of horses in the Americas, via Zoom on October 28th!
