Marina Kassianidou is participating in the group exhibition Carey's Room, curated by Sic. Contemporary Culture as part of Limassol Art Walks, October 18-20, 2024, at MAKIka, Limassol, Cyprus. Creators from the fields of visual arts (Marina Kassianidou), sound (Maria Spivak), literature (Maria Petrides), cinema (Andreas Antoniou) and architecture (ANBAU atelier: Alexandros Christofinis and Maria Lianou), explore the concepts of existential fragility, scale and illusion. With reference to Scott Carey’s shrinking after the appearance of a strange fog in the film The Incredible Shrinking Man (1957), they respond to the kaleidoscopic narrative of the MAKIka architecture, a preserved house that organically combines anthropological and mechanical function with contemporary visual art practice. Through their own practices, the makers examine, question and synthesize how human existence affects and is affected by space.

crystal am nelson is delivering “Alma’s World,” a lecture on Alma Thomas as part of Denver Art Museum’s Fall Course series, “Composing Color: The World of Alma Thomas.” The second in a three-part series, “Alma’s World” ​​focuses on the larger context in which Thomas lived and worked, paying particular attention to the artistic, social, and political movements that influenced Thomas’s development as an artist.
