Attendant Rank Faculty
Attendant rank titles are Professor Attendant, Associate Professor Attendant, Assistant Professor Attendant, Senior Instructor Attendant, Instructor Attendant, Museum Curator Attendant, Museum Associate Curator Attendant, Museum Assistant Attendant and may be granted to persons holding university administrative or service positions. Those approved for this rank are expected to possess the same scholarly qualifications in a discipline as regular faculty members and to engage in instructional activities without compensation over and above their regular salary. Those attaining this title have the same rights and privileges available to regular faculty members, except that they are not eligible for consideration of tenure.
Attendant-rank appointments are not eligible for additional compensation.
Hiring:
Since all attendant rank faculty are selected from individuals already affiliated with the university in an administrative position, no job posting or recruitment process exists. If a department sees fit to hire an attendant rank faculty member, they should submit an additional job offer letter.
Process:
- The unit will draft an additional job letter for each semester that the attendant-rank faculty member will be teaching.
- The additional job should correspond with the primary appointment of the attendant-rank faculty member.
- The unit sends the following documents to CAS Faculty Affairs (cas-faculty@colorado.edu) for review, approval, and routing:
- A draft additional job offer letter (Create this link, or attach here) in the form of a Word document, containing the following information:
- Staff member鈥檚 EID
- Staff member鈥檚 primary position number
- Staff member鈥檚 primary position title
- Staff member鈥檚 FTE and percent of appointment of their staff appointment
- Compensation for the requested teaching appointment
- This amount must be $0 for attendant-rank faculty positions
- Full name of course to be taught
- Course number of course to be taught (example: DEPT 1111-001)
- Term of course to be taught
- Name and email address of staff member鈥檚 direct supervisor for their staff position
- Name and email address of dean or provost overseeing the staff member鈥檚 staff position
- CV
- Courses agreed to teach grid
- Letter of recommendation from one faculty member within the hiring department, explaining the staff member鈥檚 qualifications to teach the specific course
- A new letter of recommendation is required for each semester that the attendant-rank faculty member will be teaching.
- CAS Faculty Affairs will route the hiring packet for signature.
