Giancarlo Bruni named Gilliam fellow for minority mentorship

The Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI)ÌýhasÌý—exceptional doctoral students who have the potential to be leaders in their fields as well as the desire to advance diversity and inclusion in the sciences. ¾«Æ·SMÔÚÏßӰƬ Graduate Research Assistant Giancarlo Bruni is one of 39 recipients.Ìý

Bruni is currently pursuing a PhDÌýin molecular, cellular, and developmental biologyÌýon the topic of bacterial electrophysiology. Prior to starting his graduate work at ¾«Æ·SMÔÚÏßӰƬ, he held research positions at Teleos Therapeutics and Massachusetts General Hospital.

Bruni alsoÌýservesÌýas a mentor to underrepresented groups through ¾«Æ·SMÔÚÏßӰƬ's SMART program,Ìýa 10-weekÌýsummer session that helpsÌýÌýwho have not had the opportunity to participate in authentic research. He also worked with undergraduate students through the Colorado Advantage Program, encouraging themÌýto pursue a graduate education by discussing his own experiences as a ¾«Æ·SMÔÚÏßӰƬ graduate student.
