He has been making and teaching animation for 20<br> years and his work has been shown in festivals and galleries nationally and<br> internationally including New York, Seattle, Maine, Boulder, and Madrid.<br> His core practice as an artist is "looking closely" which he considers a<br> meditative practice that balances the mind.</p> <p>Pearce's two films will explore evolving identity. The first film attempts to<br> make sense of the self in the wake of unmasking revelations about<br> parenting. The second explores the awareness of internal contradictions<br> between our doubt and our faith.</p> <h3>&nbsp;</h3> <p><br> &nbsp;</p></div> </div> </div> </div> </div> <h2> <div class="paragraph paragraph--type--ucb-related-articles-block paragraph--view-mode--default"> <div>Off</div> </div> </h2> <div>Traditional</div> <div>0</div> <div>On</div> <div>White</div> Wed, 07 Aug 2019 20:56:18 +0000 Anonymous 391 at /brakhagecenter Kelly Sears /brakhagecenter/2019/08/07/kelly-sears <span>Kelly Sears</span> <span><span>Anonymous (not verified)</span></span> <span><time datetime="2019-08-07T14:49:43-06:00" title="Wednesday, August 7, 2019 - 14:49">Wed, 08/07/2019 - 14:49</time> </span> <div> <div class="imageMediaStyle focal_image_wide"> <img loading="lazy" src="/brakhagecenter/sites/default/files/styles/focal_image_wide/public/article-thumbnail/ks-pic_1.jpg?h=28494f33&amp;itok=S1KXmTCf" width="1200" height="600" alt="kelly again"> </div> </div> <div role="contentinfo" class="container ucb-article-categories" itemprop="about"> <span class="visually-hidden">Categories:</span> <div class="ucb-article-category-icon" aria-hidden="true"> <i class="fa-solid fa-folder-open"></i> </div> <a href="/brakhagecenter/taxonomy/term/112"> Lunch </a> </div> <div role="contentinfo" class="container ucb-article-tags" itemprop="keywords"> <span class="visually-hidden">Tags:</span> <div class="ucb-article-tag-icon" aria-hidden="true"> <i class="fa-solid fa-tags"></i> </div> <a href="/brakhagecenter/taxonomy/term/85" hreflang="en">2019 Luncheon Speaker Series</a> <a href="/brakhagecenter/taxonomy/term/83" hreflang="en">Luncheon Series 2019</a> </div> <div class="ucb-article-content ucb-striped-content"> <div class="container"> <div class="paragraph paragraph--type--article-content paragraph--view-mode--default"> <div class="ucb-article-content-media ucb-article-content-media-above"> <div> <div class="paragraph paragraph--type--media paragraph--view-mode--default"> <div> <div class="imageMediaStyle large_image_style"> <img loading="lazy" src="/brakhagecenter/sites/default/files/styles/large_image_style/public/article-image/ks-pic_1.jpg?itok=pTiduoUv" width="1500" height="1187" alt="kelly sears"> </div> </div> </div> </div> </div> <div class="ucb-article-text d-flex align-items-center" itemprop="articleBody"> <div><h3>Animation, Appropriation, and Abstraction</h3> <h3>October 9</h3> <p><br> Kelly Sears is an experimental animator who reframes American archetypes<br> and institutions to reimagine our own social and political legacy.<br> Through combining animated photographic and cinematic documents with<br> speculative storytelling, each of her films contains recognizable cultural<br> narratives that take fictional twists, as history merges with the uncanny.<br> <br> Her award-winning films have screened at Sundance, Slamdance, South by<br> Southwest, American Film Institute, Los Angeles Film Festival, MoMA, The<br> Hammer Museum, The Museum of Contemporary Art Houston, and Union Docs.<br> Sears has had solo programs of her work at the Pacific Film Archives,<br> Anthology Film Archives, The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, The Portland<br> Art Museum, and the San Francisco Cinematheque.&nbsp;
