We remember and celebrate the life of emeritus faculty member, Dr. P. John Lymberopoulos, who recently passed away over the holidays. Dr. Lymberopoulos was an exceptional member of our university community and had a very positive impact on all whom he interacted with over his distinguished career.
He was a member of the Leeds School of Business faculty for more than 40 years, teaching business statistics, international finance, international business and management. CU students were always Dr. Lymberopoulos’Ìý(Dr. L's) priority and passion in his career.
From Greece to Colorado
John moved to the United States from Greece in 1953. Since then, his interests have taken him from the Atlanta and Athens Olympic Games to Helsinki and the United Arab Emirates. He translated for the Greek delegation at the Atlanta Olympic Games and served as the Athens Liaison for the U.S. Olympic Committee in 2004. After earning his undergraduate degree from Ohio University, he completed both his MBA and doctorate at the University of Texas at Austin, while teaching full time.
Over his time at the University of Colorado, Boulder, he served in many administrative roles, including as Associate Dean of the Leeds School of Business, Dean of the Division of Continuing Education and of the Summer Session and Executive Director of the President’s Leadership Class. He is also the recipient of the May D. & F. Teaching Excellence Award and was a member of the national honors societies Beta Gamma Sigma and the Golden Key Society.
Throughout his career, he was an active researcher, publishing articles in such publications as the Texas Business Review, The American Statistician, Southwestern Social Science Quarterly, Colorado Business Review and more, in addition to the many papers, research monographs and case studies he produced while at the Leeds School of Business.
John was also active in the Boulder community, including with the Boulder Rotary, Boulder YMCA and Associated Alumni Board of Directors at ¾«Æ·SMÔÚÏßӰƬ. He served on numerous committees at Leeds and for national committees related to ethnic heritage, and he consulted in both the private and public sectors, including for the United States Department of Labor, The Pepsi-Cola Company, United States Chamber of Commerce, and the Anheuser-Busch Companies.
Forever remembered
Dr. Lymberopoulos is somewhat famous at Leeds—and will forever be remembered—for his teaching style, which combined modesty, wry humor, and light-hearted approach to complicated business topics. We were all so lucky to have such a kind, inspiring person in our community. He touched many lives and will be deeply missed.
Memorial contributions can be made in his name to the Boulder Rotary Club Foundation (Lymberopoulos Scholarship fund, 3995 Baseline Road, Suite 301, Boulder, CO 80303), and Saints Peter and Paul Greek Orthodox Church in Boulder.
