In many ways, Buddhist-inspired violence may seem like an oxymoron, yet there is a robust history of Buddhist revolts, just-war theory, and violence in Asia. Dr. Jerryson analyzes the patterns behind these historical examples and their relationship to the current violence on the Rohingya and Sri Lanka Muslims.

Michael Jerryson听is Professor of Religious Studies at Youngstown State University. He is the author of听If You Meet the Buddha on the Road: Buddhism, Politics, and Violence听(2018) and听Buddhist Fury: Religion and Violence in Southern Thailand听(2011). Co-editor of听The Oxford Handbook of Religion and Violence听(2013) and听Buddhist Warfare听(2010), he is working on a forthcoming edited volume, tentatively entitled:听Buddhist-Muslim Relations in a Theravada World.听
