Amit Ranjan gave a talk titled: 鈥淒are Dara disturb the Universe?鈥 on November 1, 2019. 52 people came for the talk (including a number of students from my class.) The speaker talked about the differences between Dara Shikoh, who was set to take the Mughal throne in the 17th century and his younger brother, who killed him and became the Mughal emperor. The punchline was that Dara Shikoh鈥檚 affiliation with mystically inclined ascetics, fakirs who refused to embrace a fundamentalist Islam caused the elite Muslim clergy to betray him and in turn for his generals to abandon him on the battlefield. It was an interesting talk with good questions from the audience, concluding the presentation.
