PhD Student Awarded P.E.O. Scholarship
Architectural Engineering PhD student Katy Hinkleman has been awarded the Philanthropic Educational Organization (P.E.O.) Scholar Award for the 2021-2022 academic year. Hinkleman was one of 100 women to win the award out of 847 nominees.
The program was established in 1991 to 鈥減rovide substantial merit-based awards for women of the United States and Canada who are pursuing a doctoral level degree at an accredited college or university.鈥 Since 1991, 2,527 Scholar Awards have been granted, totaling $30.1 million.
Hinkleman is a research assistant in the Sustainable Buildings and Societies Laboratory. She received her BS degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Denver in 2013, where she also played for the university鈥檚 D1 women鈥檚 soccer program. She received her MS degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of California at Berkeley in 2015.
Her master鈥檚 research focused on the environmental impact analysis and co-design of culturally-centered homes with the Pinoleville Pomo Nation of California. Before coming to 精品SM在线影片, Hinkleman worked at the Boulder Engineering Company for three years, where she designed electrical and mechanical systems for multi-family residential and commercial buildings.
Hinkleman鈥檚 research interests are in smart and connected communities, urban-scale energy modeling, district energy systems, biomimicry, community sustainability & resiliency, design thinking, indoor/outdoor environmental quality, and life cycle assessment.
