-
Secretaries, please remember to send out the meeting minutes 24 hours after every meeting with a quick summary of what we discussed included in the email.
-
7:30 PM - First Appeal, Nepalese Student Association “Cultural Talent Show, ” November 13th, 2021, 5:30 - 9:00 PM
-
-
Coming in to discuss food ($737.27)
-
Notes
-
Program Council speaker system is no longer needed.
-
They can use the Glenn Miller house system.
-
Don’t need the Program Council audio system.
-
-
They will have help from Program Council with lighting.
-
$42 on two microphones vs. $400 on audio system for Program Council.
-
-
Food is really important because it will help with attendance.
-
Because of the pandemic, people don’t want to go to events.
-
Food will encourage people to come to the event.
-
It’s okay if we don’t have the entire quote. Cost will be cut by around $200 (still awaiting the new quote).
-
Planning on removing the cookies and coffee. Only having fruit platter and hot chai.
-
-
-
-
The talent show is culturally based and the color gold is important.
-
They would like a gold banner or gold confetti.
-
Candles, lights, and lots of colors are part of Nepali culture.
-
Helps to sell the event.
-
New list is more culturally relevant.
-
-
New Glenn Miller quote.
-
$281.00
-
Adding round tables so people can sit in a group and not as much a lecture style format. Encourages people and different groups to get to know each other.
-
Adds about $100.00 more.
-
-
-
They will have a proper spreadsheet at a later date and the proper quotes.
-
They are in a time crunch right now.
-
-
-
Discussion
-
Food
-
Took out everything except the fruit and the chai.
-
$432.50 ($305 difference)
-
$594.50: cookies, chai, water, fruit.
-
-
We did fund non-culturally relevant food before.
-
That was a different board, it is up to us.
-
-
They have been restricted by dining services in the UMC.
-
They are being penalized for that. They don’t have culturally relevant food options.
-
-
Rationalization for the fruit is a little bit of a stretch.
-
Chai and biscuits are more traditional.
-
Fund the cookies?
-
Fund fruit, cookies, and chai?

Budgetary Questions
-
How does this specific request help with your event (in terms of turn out)?
-
All that is left is the fruit platter and the hot chai.
-
Chai is a staple of Nepalis culture.
-
-
Chose Glenn Miller because it is the center of campus.
-
Could have chosen another location, like the rec center, but this is better for drawing people in. It is a better set up for the talent show as well.
-
-
-
What is the expected attendance?
-
200-250 people
-
Lots of members this year (30-40).
-
Members are involved in different organizations that will likely be a part of the event.
-
-
-
What will you do to ensure the decorations are preserved for future years?
-
UMC office space.
-
Already have decorations from previous years.
-
Now they know what works and what doesn’t, so they can be used in future years. The decorations will also be able to be used in other NSA events.
-
-
Did you talk to Events Planning and Catering about a waiver for outside food at the event?
-
Talk to dining services and the answer was no.
-
-
The Glenn Miller reservation has one table included and 220 chairs. Is that correct?
-
