The Center for African & African American Studies Graduate Student Summer Fellowships (aka the 鈥淐AAAS Grad Student Summer Fellowships鈥) are for 精品SM在线影片 graduate students conducting research and creative work in African studies, African American studies, and African diaspora studies who do not already receive university-sponsored or external funding (in any amount) during the summer months. The $6,000 stipend will be paid out in $2,000 payments in June, July, and August. All 精品SM在线影片 graduate students with demonstrable research and creative work in African studies, African American studies, and/or African diaspora studies are eligible to apply.

Eligibility:

  • Students must be currently enrolled in a master's or doctoral level program at 精品SM在线影片聽and聽be enrolled in Fall 2024 courses.

  • Students must be doing research or creative work in African studies, African American studies, and/or African diaspora studies. Applicants who come from departments or programs outside of traditional African studies, African American studies, and/or African diaspora studies disciplines should clearly demonstrate how their research or creative work engages with multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary African studies, African American studies, and/or African diaspora studies subjects, histories, theories, methods, and archives, etc.

  • Any eligible graduate student may submit an application with the exception of students who have received summer fellowships and/or funding from 精品SM在线影片 or external sources.

  • Students may not have another summer fellowship or receive a stipend (in any amount), which means that those already guaranteed university-sponsored funding are not eligible to apply. This includes Summer Lecturer, Graduate Part-Time Instructor (GPTI), Teaching Assistant, Research Assistant, or Graduate Assistant appointments. If you apply and are awarded and then obtain university-sponsored funding at a later date, please email聽rabaka@colorado.edu聽to relinquish your CAAAS Grad Student Summer Fellowship.聽The CAAAS鈥檚 goal is to provide students with a stipend who have no other summer funding.

Application Procedure

Applicants must submit #s 1-3 below in a single .pdf by the deadline,聽March 15, 2024,聽to rabaka@colorado.edu.聽Make 鈥淐AAAS Grad Student Summer Fellowship Application鈥 the email subject line when submitting application materials.聽Late or incomplete applications will not be considered.

1.听Cover Letter (double-spaced, 12-point font, one page or less). Please include: a) your student ID number; b) indicate which degree program you are currently enrolled in; c) note where you are in your program requirements; and d) why this fellowship would make a significant difference for your research or creative work.

2.听Proposal聽(double-spaced, 12-point font, one page or less/two pages permitted if you are adding artistic images, etc., to support your proposal). Provide details regarding your research or creative work project/interests and explain what you hope to accomplish over the summer that will aid you in completing your master鈥檚 thesis or doctoral dissertation. Note: There is no requirement to complete anything over the summer. The聽CAAAS Grad Student Summer Fellowship聽is meant to support the development of your research or creative work. Please do not include a budget. No budget is necessary.

Expectations

1. By September 1, please email rabaka@colorado.edu a 300-600 word summary (double-spaced, 12 point font) detailing how the CAAAS Grad Student Summer Fellowship aided in furthering your dissertation or thesis research.

2. Acknowledgment of the Center for African & African American Studies (CAAAS) is required on all promotional/published materials for projects funded by the CAAAS.
