Steve WozniakApple co-founder to headline 68th Conference on World Affairs.

The Woz is coming to Boulder.

Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak聽(Engr ex鈥72, HonDocSci鈥89) will be the聽keynote speaker at CU-Boulder鈥檚 68th聽annual Conference on World Affairs聽(CWA), delivering an opening-day address聽Monday, April 4, at Macky Auditorium.聽The conference runs through April 8.

Wozniak, 65, attended the university聽as a freshman in 1968, then returned聽home to California. Within a decade, he聽had designed and hand-built the personal聽computer 鈥 the 1976 Apple I 鈥 that聽became the first product of the firm he聽co-founded with Steve Jobs, now called聽Apple, Inc., and one of the world鈥檚 most聽profitable companies.

After leaving Apple in聽1985, Wozniak graduated聽from Cal-Berkeley and聽established himself as a聽major philanthropist with聽a particular interest in聽promoting computer use in聽schools. A gift to CU-Boulder聽established the 鈥淲oz聽Lab鈥 in CU-Boulder鈥檚 computer聽science department聽and supports other student聽activities.

Wozniak鈥檚 April campus聽visit was orchestrated聽entirely by students from聽the CU Cultural Events聽Board, and students聽will moderate his Q&A聽session.

As always, the CWA聽is open to the general聽public. Other influential聽Forever Buffs scheduled聽to participate in聽panel discussions include jazz musician聽and composer Don Grusin (Soc鈥63;聽MEcon鈥67), former U.S. Ambassador聽to Mali and Madagascar Vicki Huddleston聽(A&S鈥64) and聽psychotherapist聽Aaron Balick (Engl鈥95), among others.

鈥淭he CWA is delighted to welcome a聽host of CU alums back to campus this聽spring,鈥 says John Griffin, the conference聽director. 鈥淚t inspires students by exposing聽them to people who, coming out of聽CU, have excelled in their fields and have聽made a real impact with their work.鈥
