Assistant professor of chemical and biological engineeringÌýJason BaraÌý(PhDChemEngr’07) developed a carbon-capture process using imidazole solvents. This process is licensed by ION Engineering in Boulder. He lives in Tuscaloosa, Ala., and teaches at the University of Alabama.

Osteopathic medical studentÌýAmber HullÌý(IntPhys’07) was elected to the American Osteopathic Association’s Board of Trustees as the student representative and will serve as chair of the Council of Student Affairs. Amber studies at the Midwestern University/Arizona College of Osteopathic Medicine. She plans to practice obstetrics and gynecology.

On July 6ÌýLieschen GarganoÌý(IntlAf’08) marriedÌýAaron QuillingÌý(Engl’08) at Snow Mountain Ranch in Granby, Colo. Lieschen is a University of Denver Korbel School of International Studies master’s student in peace and conflict resolution and works for CDR Associates. Aaron is a chef at Oak at Fourteenth in Boulder. The couple will celebrate with a trip to Southeast Asia this winter.

Former U.S. pro-cyclistÌýTyler HamiltonÌý(A&S ex’09) rode for the U.S. Postal Service team and wroteÌýThe Secret Race: Inside the Hidden World of the Tour de France. He runs the Tyler Hamilton Training program where he works with others as their personal cycling coach. He divides his time between Boulder and Missoula, Mont.

Two years agoÌýJeffrey LandÌý(Hist’09) and a few friends started South Mouth Wings in Boulder on Broadway and Arapahoe. Jeffrey is in his third year of law school at Florida Coastal School of Law in Jacksonville, Fla.

USA Track & Field namedÌýJenny Barringer SimpsonÌý(PolSci’09) Athlete of the Week on July 24. That week Jenny won the 1500-meter race in 4:00.48 at the Monaco Herculis Diamond League. In August, Jenny placed second in the women’s 1,500 at the world championships in Moscow.

Four years agoÌýKirk WilliamsÌý(Soc’09) flew over the handlebars of his mountain bike at Hall Ranch near Lyons, Colo., and damaged three vertebrae and his spinal cord. Last summer he attended the No Barriers Summit in Telluride. The summit has clinics and workshops for adaptive rock climbing, paddle sports, yoga, hiking cycling and more. Kirk lives in Boulder and plans to launch his business Bird Eye Optics, which uses a flying camera to film and photograph different events. He directs the flying camera from his wheelchair.

Colorado nativeÌýNatalie WoodÌý(Comm’09) produces and anchors 10/11 Central Nebraska News at 5:30 and 9 p.m. on KSNB. Natalie landed her first anchor job in Williston, N.D., with an NBC affiliate. She enjoys running, biking and spending time with her dog.

In the July 26 issue ofÌýThe Denver PostÌýEsubalew JohnstonÌý(A&S ex’10) appeared in an article about Ethiopian immigrants. He emigrated to the U.S. from Ethiopia in 1997 after being adopted by an American family. As a child in Ethiopia he was kidnapped, blinded by his kidnappers and forced to beg for money on the streets. According to the article, Esubalew is looking for a job where he can work with adopted children. He is determined to send money back to his family in Ethiopia. He lives in Englewood, Colo.

Boulder riderÌýKiel ReijnenÌý(MechEngr ex’10) participated in the USA Pro Cycling Challenge in August. Last summer he finished third at the Tour of Utah and helped his team United Health Care Pro Cycling win second place overall. Kiel won the Philly Cycling Classic earlier in the summer and finished third at the 2013 USA Cycling professional road race nationals. He lives on Bainbridge Island, Wash.

Sarah BergerÌý(BioCh’12) received a five-year teaching fellowship from The Knowles Science Teaching Foundation Last fall she began teaching at Clayton Valley Charter High School in Concord, Calif.

After graduating,ÌýHamad AlbarahemÌý(Econ’11) worked at Boston Restaurant Associates, a firm that owns 21 restaurants. He then moved home to Kuwait to work for Booz and Company, a leading consulting firm. Since then Hamad started a financial management firm for restaurants called InBetween Restaurant Management. He says it is the first of its kind in Kuwait.

Aric FranzmeierÌý(Econ’11) founded FlipTask, a website that matches personal or business-related errands posted by task posters with task runners to carry out the jobs. Tasks include picking up laundry and making copies at an office.Ìý

Jazz musician and CU-Boulder educatorÌýJon KohneÌý(MMus’12) opened Old Town Music Studio in Longmont, Colo. Jon offers private and group lessons to people of all ages and levels, specializing in piano, guitar, music composition and music theory.

Shagun PawarÌý(Psych, Soc’12) moved to Oregon for graduate school as a stepping stone to receiving her doctorate in clinical psychology. Shagun writes she misses CU, but she is looking forward to the adventures that lie before her.
