The Boulder International Film Festival has become a hot spot for movie stars and film enthusiasts around the country. The festival was started 10 years ago by sisters and filmmakers聽Kathy Beeck聽(Engl鈥�86) and聽Robin Beeck(Comm鈥�88). The pair shared a love for movies and believed that Boulder was the ideal place for a festival with a backdrop of the Flatirons. Their initial goal was to bring independent films to Boulder. In the festival鈥檚 first year, 5,000 people came. Now more than 20,000 people attend each year.

Graham Hill聽(Jour鈥�86) developed Wide Eyez, a bike helmet shield that protects riders from insects and the elements. In 1997 the Boulder resident started 21 Wheels, an enterprise focused on alternative transportation.

Herbalist and acupuncturist聽David Teitler聽(Jour) specializes in the treatment of respiratory conditions and is the owner of Dr. Dave鈥檚 Herbal Medicine in Carbondale, Colo. His remedies are carried by more than 60 retail outlets in 15 states.

David R. Bach聽(Class) has been named a Maryland Super Lawyer by Super Lawyers magazine for 2013, 2014 and 2015. He has been practicing family law for more than 23 years in Rockville, Md., where he resides. David currently co-chairs the Montgomery County Bar Association鈥檚 education law section. After serving for 28 years in the U.S. Navy (active and reserve time),聽James Michael Davis聽(Econ) retired in December with the rank of commander. The former CU NROTC midshipman spent 2013 on active duty in Manama, Bahrain. At retirement he was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal. He lives in Pasadena, Calif.

After the $44 billion merger of the French and Swiss cement-supplying giants Lafarge and Holcim,聽Eric Olsen聽(Fin) was named CEO. Eric had been with Lafarge since 1999, holding several positions in the company鈥檚 North American operations. Originally from Chicago, Eric became a joint U.S-French citizen last year after more than a decade in France.

After working several decades in real estate in New York City,聽Colin Rath聽(Econ) published a book about his experiences entitled聽It Is What It Is: A True Manhattan Real Estate Nightmare with a Silver Lining. This year Colin and his family traveled the world on their sailboat Persevere and raced in major regattas. Find him at .

Keith Villa聽(MCDBio), founder and head brewmaster of Blue Moon Brewing Company, was named the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Metro Denver鈥檚 2015 Businessman of the Year. The Arvada, Colo., resident鈥檚 family includes several Forever Buffs: wife聽Jodi Nelson Villa聽(ArchEngr鈥�86), mom聽Mercedes Wheeler聽(Nurs鈥�88) and daughters聽Catherine Villa聽(MechEngr鈥�16) and聽Marie Villa听(叠耻蝉鈥�19).

Darren McKnight (PhDAero), technical director at Integrity Applications Inc. in Chantilly, Va., published Make Yourself Indispensable: A Guide for Career Success. The book, which examines workforce productivity and career strategy, was inspired by multi-disciplinary research he started at CU. The book is available on Amazon. Darren lives in Centreville, Va.

Timothy Tomasik (Jour), a founder of Chicago law firm Tomasik Kotin Kasserman LLC, handles aviation, transportation, antitrust and medical negligence cases. In 2011, he was a member of the plaintiff鈥檚 executive committee in litigation that secured a $1.2-billion settlement on behalf of World Trade Center property damage victims. Timothy鈥檚 wife, Jennifer, is also a lawyer. They have two daughters and live in Western Springs, Ill.

In December聽2015, 罢丑辞尘补蝉听惭补肠办 (Fin) graduated聽from the University of聽North Texas with his PhD聽in American history. His聽dissertation focused on聽the Civil War. He works聽in聽IT management in Dallas聽and is pursuing teaching聽opportunities at the four-year college level.

Shari Miles-Cohen (Psych) co-edited the book Eliminating Inequities for Women with Disabilities: An Agenda for Health and Wellness. Shari is a senior director for the American Psychological Association in Washington, D.C.

An original artwork created by Bill Sawicki (ArchEngr) was included in the 40th anniversary group exhibition 鈥淎 Building with a View: Experiments in Anarchitecture鈥� at the Contemporary Arts Center in New Orleans. The show ran August through October.

After 18 years in entertainment management, including work with Broadway tours and Cirque du Soleil, Kate Amberg (Ling) has started her own business. Following a long-time interest in family history, storytelling and genealogy, she started Creating Memories Now, which digitizes and stores family photographs and documents. Kate, who has lived in Las Vegas for 10 years, is a member of APPO, the Association of Professional Photo Organizers.

Beebe Bahrami (MCDBio) works as a fulltime freelance writer specializing in travel, food and wine, archaeology, spirituality and outdoor adventure pieces. In March Beebe gave a reading at the Boulder Book Store to promote her two new books, Caf茅 Oc: A Nomad鈥檚 Tales of Magic, Mystery and Finding Home in the Dordogne of Southwestern France and Caf茅 Neandertal: Excavating Our Past in One of Europe鈥檚 Most Ancient Places. She visits with family in Boulder several times a year.

Nancy Daw Kane (Dance) was appointed editor-in-chief of National Dance Society Journal. She is lead author of the article 鈥淐omparisons of Personality Dispositions and Genetic Inferences in Groups of Performing Artists,鈥� published in June in the International Journal of Music and Performing Arts.

Stephen Martin (MusEdu), former band teacher at Denver鈥檚 D鈥橢velyn High School, was inducted into the Colorado Bandmasters Association鈥檚 Hall of Fame. Steve and wife Roxanne have two daughters聽and two grandchildren.
