Ben Robertson's research and teaching focus on genre fiction, especially fantasy and weird fiction, and, more recently, on franchise, aesthetic form, and contemporary capitalism . His writing has appeared in听Configurations,听Science Fiction Studies,听Amodern,听The Journal for the Fantastic in the Arts,听Extrapolation, and听Music, Sound, and the Moving Image, among other places.听He has published book chapters on听Watchmen; music, networks, and terrorism; and imaginary worlds. With Marie-Laure Ryan and Lori Emerson he has edited听The Johns Hopkins Guide to Digital Media. His first book,听None of this is normal: The Fiction of Jeff VanderMeer,听was published by the University of Minnesota Press in 2018. With Gerry Canavn of Marquette University he edits a book series for Minnesota, Mass Markets: Studies in Franchise Culture. He is currently writing a short book on the recent Lucasfilm/Disney+ show听Andor, which will serve as a preliminary study for a longer engagement with the franchise form in a future book project.
