CEDaR housing initiatives and resilient infrastructure internships

The Community Engagement Design and Research Center (CEDaR) partners with Colorado communities to help build resilient and equitable cities and neighborhoods. CEDaR’s goal is to stimulate research and teaching on critical urban challenges, leading to innovations in design, policy and programs. Our work is rooted in a philosophy of engaged research integrated with service.

Internships

  • Financing for mobile/small home communities: working with two parks involved in buyouts of ownership (e.g., to cooperatives or individual lot ownership) and rehabilitation initiatives – this project will probably involve spreadsheet analysis, evaluation of existing public and private financial products for applicability, etc.
  • Architecture/product design for rehabilitation: review of manufacture of modular components e.g., energy-efficient panels – review of catalogues and discussions with manufacturers, likely white paper on availability, cost, quality of components
  • Resilient infrastructure
    • Design of rain gardens – continued work on neighborhood project in park hill
    • Completion of raingarden assessment and related assessment projects

Internship requirements

  • Interest in community engagement and resilient infrastructure
  • Tremendous flexibility! If you are outraged when someone - like a supervisor - doesn’t return emails immediately or is often late to meetings, this internship is absolutely not for you
  • Experience with the Adobe Cloud software (Indesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop), AutoCad, and GIS are a definite plus (but not strictly required)
