ECON 3545 Environmental Economics
Economics has been central as a cause of natural resource degradation, and it is also at the core of the solution to most environmental problems.听 A primary goal of this course is to develop insight as to how humans manage natural resources and why.听 Once we understand incentives, then we can propose policies aiming at the conservation of natural resources. We will focus on understanding a list of the core concepts that do most of the heavy lifting in environmental economics. 听Students will have the opportunity to apply their new knowledge toward understanding current environmental problems.听

ECON 4242 Urban Economics听
听Urban economics studies the economics of cities. We study why cities exist. We try to understand the behavior of cities: why do some parts grow faster than others? Finally, we address some urban problems, such as traffic congestion, poverty concentration, racial segregation, and suburban sprawl.听More than half of all humans live in a city. Despite congestion, poverty, and disease, cities are also where people learn, share, live, and thrive.

ECON 3818 Introduction to Statistics听
This course is an introduction to the principles of statistical reasoning and inference. We start studying probability, but the main objective is to听help you understand the following concepts: sampling distributions, hypothesis testing, and confidence intervals across multiple settings. This means that you will be able to use what you know to infer what you don't know.听

ECON 4818 Introduction to Econometrics
This course introduces the Ordinary听Least Squares Model. We focus on cross-sectional data, we understand the model assumptions, and we use hypothesis testing. Students learn how to make predictions and how reliable those predictions are. We build models, and we learn how to convince others to trust our models.听

How do we learn?
I have taught Economics for more than two decades. In this video, I summarize strategies that work for my students. All of these strategies are backed up by pedagogical research.听

We are lucky to have YOU!
This 10-minute talk was shared听at the Colorado Learning and Teaching with Technology Conference (COLTT). 鈥淚 see who you are, I value and respect you, and I want to share this learning experience with you鈥 is the primary message that we have tried to get across to our online students during the Pandemic Era. However, the need to belong is timeless and ubiquitous. The lack of a sense of belonging results in worse academic outcomes and even poor health. I work every day听trying to convey this message in better ways.听听听

Messages to foster a sense of belonging
This was 2022 TeachECONference hosted by the Centre for Teaching and Learning Economics at UCL. I present the preliminary results of an intervention in Introduction to Statistics class.听The basic finding is that messages that promote a sense of belonging are good for student's learning performance, and they make students and instructors happier to share this learning experience.听
