About the Project

The 19th Street pedestrian bridge and pathway will link Main Campus and neighborhoods north of Boulder Creek.The project was approved by the CU Board of Regents, with 80 percent of the cost being covered by the Denver Regional Council of Governments (DRCOG) using Federal Transportation Improvement Project funds.The new bridge will replace a historic connection that was washed away by the 2013 flood and provide significant connectivity and ADA accessibility improvements for people living in the areas north of Boulder Creek (Athens Court, Faculty Court, etc.).

Project Updates

December 2020:

New bridge links Main Campus, neighborhoods north of Boulder Creek

November 2020:

  • We are finishing up site grading, landscaping and electrical on the project
  • We expect to have the bridge open by the end of November 2020 (exact date is TBD - work is weather dependent)

May-June 2020:

  • Micro-pile installation completed
  • Micro-pile caps installed
  • Bridge Columns poured at micro-piles
  • Bridge spans 1 – 5  set
  • Pier caps 1 – 8 set

April 2020:

  • Bridge Columns were poured at Caissons
  • Access for Micro-pile installation was constructed
  • Micro-pile installation was started
  • Temporary Bridge was installed at low water crossing location to allow for crossing of the Creek during spring runoff. This will require users of the Creek to exit the Creek prior to the work zone as shown on this map.

March 2020:

  • Contractor mobilized to the site
  • Multi-use path along Boulder Creek was detoured around project site
  • At-grade creek crossing was installed
  • Bridge Caissons were poured
  • Columns were formed at Caissons

February 2020:

  • Established work zone with fencing, etc.
  • Contractor mobilized equipment and construction trailers onsite
  • Boulder Creek Path detour established

February 4, 2020:

Work started today on new pedestrian bridge linking Main Campus and neighborhoods north of Boulder Creek. The new bridge will replace a historic connection that was washed away by the 2013 flood. The Boulder Creek multiuse path near 19th Street and Grandview Avenue will be detoured for several months while crews work to restore the historic connection.
