IAFS 1000- Global Issues and International Affairs

IAFS 1000 is a great place to begin your International Affairs major or minor!

Offering a comprehensive dive into the world of political and economic development in many countries and regions around the world, you will begin gaining a deeper understanding of historical trends and development as well as current political and economic issues.
This will cover a lower division requirment for the major and minor.

islam geopolitics and societyIAFS 3010- Islam, Geopolitics and Society: Gender, Identity and Place

IAFS 3010 offers a look into Islam, geopolitics and society in various locations throughout the world. In this course you will examine countries such as Afghanistan, Egypt, France, Germany, India, Pakistan, Turkey, the US, and many others to gain a deeper understanding of issues of gender, identity and place and the complexity and diversity of social experiences within the milieu of Islam and geopolitics.
This course will cover Function Area III requirements and the Africa/Middle East Geographic Concentration requirements

special topics in international affairs the radical rightIAFS 3000-001: The Radical Right

IAFS 3000-001 shows how radical rightwing movements have transformed poltics and society throughout the world throughout the past听decade. In this class you will learn analyze the radical right's various forms, focusing in particular on democratic authoritarian politics,听terrorism, media, and culture.
This class will cover听Functional Area IV requirements.

vietnam/us, war, and society IAFS 3000-581- Vietnam/US, War and Society

IAFS 3000-581听places the Vietnam War in a comprehensive historical context, investigates its development, and dissects it topically.听You听will examine interdisciplinary scholarship, documents, literature, and film produced in both countries to听understand the ways in which听US foreign policy led to the most destructive war in the global history of decolonization. This course not only internationalizes the history of听the Vietnam War in the Asian context and the context of the Cold War,听but听 听analyzes its lasting impact on US and Vietnamese society and听culture, with which to this day both countries are still trying to come to terms.
This course will cover Functional Area III requirements and听the Asia Geographic Concertation听requirements.听
