RISE summer fellowship, seed grant

The Resilient Infrastructure with Sustainability and Equity Interdisciplinary Research Theme is offering a condensed fellowship/seed grant cycle of $10,000 that is open to faculty affiliates, post-docs, or graduate students. The effort will fund pilot projects and research activities that relate to the three themes of the IRT. The intention is for the funds to be spent from June 15 through Aug. 15, 2021.

Interdisciplinary Research Themes in the College of Engineering and Applied Science are made up of faculty, staff and students. They help researchers from across the college coordinate faculty hires, share facilities and use seed funding to leverage work that could provide transformational societal impact. The Resilient Infrastructure with Sustainability and Equity theme was formed in July 2020. It explores holistic actions to address the many drivers of urban disaster risk worldwide, while simultaneously addressing environmental sustainability and social equity challenges.

Applications will be accepted through the online portal until May 30. Required materials include a two-page CV of the PI(s) and a two-page proposal detailing the research activities envisioned, how they relate and contribute to the themes of RISE, how they could lead to larger scale proposals for the college of engineering, and a timeline of goals and expenditures.

Interdisciplinary projects spanning the three themes of RISE are particularly encouraged and questions should be emailed to IRT Director Shideh Dashti.
