012 | Alexia McCaskill | Leadership and law

In this episode,听we talk about being a lawyer in Washington DC...in the 1990鈥檚 as a black female...we also chat about how University staff are growing their leadership skills on campus and about a new mentorship program for 1st and 2nd year law students at CU.

Alexia McCaskill听is the Senior Director for Professional Development at the University of Colorado Law School. She joined Colorado Law鈥檚 Career Development Office in 2010 after practicing law for 20 years in Washington, DC. During her time as a practicing attorney, she represented labor unions and served on the legal staff of a federal political appointee.

Alexia originally joined Colorado Law as its Director for Government and Public Services Careers, a role she held for approximately 8 years serving as the office lead on public service career advising and building relationships with government and public interest employers. As a member of the CDO team, Alexia鈥檚 duties include counseling law students and alumni in all aspects of their career and professional development, designing and presenting programming in support of student professional development, managing the law school鈥檚 mentor program, and chairing the law school鈥檚 LRAP Committee. She has also served as the interim administrator of Colorado Law Leaders in Law and Community (LILAC) program which 鈥渁ddresses diversity in the broadest sense by recruiting and developing students from backgrounds underrepresented in law schools and in the legal profession. She continues to serve on the LILAC Committee.

Alexia recently completed CU鈥檚 2020-2021 University Perspective Program, the purpose of which is 鈥渢o develop and deepen the leadership capacity of staff on the 精品SM在线影片 campus.鈥

Alexia holds a听 B.A.听in Psychology from Earlham College and a J.D. from Washington University School of Law.听
