Whether you鈥檙e returning to Boulder or just walking across campus for Homecoming 2015, the Golden Buffalo Marching Band hopes to get you in the Colorado spirit during halftime at the Buffs-Arizona football game.
鈥淥ur goal is to encompass iconic Colorado features or concepts,鈥 explains Director Matthew Roeder. 鈥淭his is a time when alumni return to share their memories and traditions with current students. It鈥檚 a special opportunity to remind them of what they loved about being here鈥攚hether it鈥檚 the lifestyle, the beauty, their academic or social experiences, or the spirit of the university.鈥
To that end, the show starts off with a medley of Colorado imagery: John Denver鈥檚 鈥淩ocky Mountain High鈥 and the Eagles鈥 鈥淩ocky Mountain Way.鈥
鈥淭hey鈥檙e classic songs, and focus on Colorado as a whole,鈥 says Roeder.
Next up will be a dance tune, featuring the CU dance team and the color guard. 鈥淲e needed to narrow it down, so we picked the song 鈥楲ove Runs Out鈥 by One Republic, who is originally from Colorado Springs,鈥 Roeder explains.
Finally, for the 鈥渂ring it back to Boulder鈥 portion of the show, Roeder says the band will perform 鈥淚n the Mood,鈥 made famous by CU-Boulder alumnus Glenn Miller. 鈥淲e thought it was fitting to end it that way, since Glenn Miller attended CU.鈥
The band will also perform the 鈥淐olorado Throwback鈥 show during this Saturday night鈥檚 Family Weekend game against Oregon, but Roeder says homecoming will be the main event. 鈥淲e always have some marching band alumni come back and play with the band during the Pearl Street Stampede and at the end of halftime,鈥 Roeder says. 鈥淚t鈥檒l be really neat for them to be back in the stands during the game, reminiscing and sharing traditions with current members.鈥
Homecoming Weekend is October 15-18, with the Buffaloes football game and the marching band鈥檚 halftime performance on Saturday, Oct. 17. For more events happening that weekend,听. Kickoff for the Family Weekend game against the University of Oregon is this Saturday at 8 p.m.听.
