Daphne Leong鈥檚 got rhythm: When it comes to 20th- and 21st-century music, Professor of Music Theory Daphne Leong鈥攁long with her colleagues in the world of rhythm in music performance and scholarship鈥攅ngages in intense research and endless experimentation which brought her to Montreal鈥檚 McGill University for a residency. Associate Dean for Graduate Studies Margaret Berg co-authored an article with alumna and Westminster High School band teacher Megan Lewin (MA 鈥�18) that includes core reflection applications for in-service music teachers. The article鈥斺��Stress-reduction strategies for music teachers鈥濃�攚as published in the September 2023 Music Educators Journal. Berg also has a chapter titled 鈥淔ostering care through core reflection鈥� in the new Oxford Handbook of Care in Music Education, edited by K. Hendricks.听
Associate Professor of Bass Susan Cahill guest starred on 鈥攈er third time on the program.听
Teaching Professor Peter Cooper conducted master classes in Germany (Berlin, Stuttgart and Leipzig)鈥攎ade possible, in part, by the Dr. C.W. Bixler Family Foundation Faculty Initiatives Fund.听
Professor of Piano Andrew Cooperstock was inducted into the prestigious Steinway & Sons Teacher Hall of Fame at a ceremony in Astoria, Queens, New York, followed by a tour of the historic Steinway factory. A Steinway pianist, Cooperstock has performed on six continents and recorded a critically acclaimed series of American music albums鈥攏otably the complete solo piano works by Leonard Bernstein (Bridge, Deutsche Grammophon).听
: Dusinberre鈥檚 new book鈥� (University of Chicago Press)鈥攆ocuses on four composers, discussing their lives and what 鈥渉ome鈥� might mean to them ... and to Dusinberre himself, having lived in England and the United States. , a conversation between Dusinberre and London-based violinist and writer Joseph Edwards.听

Assistant Professor of Voice Andrew Garland鈥攁long with College of Music colleagues Javier Abreu, tenor; Jeremy Reger, piano; Margret McDonald, producer; and Kevin Harbison, engineer鈥攅arned third place recognition for their album 鈥淓l Rebelde鈥�: Gabriela Frank | Dmitri Shostakovich in the, among the many contests of The American Prize. As well, Garland made his Boston Symphony Orchestra (Holiday Pops) debut singing Vaughan Williams鈥� 鈥淔antasia on Christmas Carols鈥� and he鈥檒l be teaching several courses on the for which he is a launch artist.听
Professor of Trumpet Ryan Gardner was named president of the International Trumpet Guild.听
The College of Music鈥檚 Philharmonia Orchestra, conducted by Associate Director of Orchestras Renee Gilliland, was selected as a national finalist in the as part of The American Prize (National Nonprofit Competitions in the Performing Arts).听
Associate Professor of Music Education Leila Heil was selected to participate in the CU system鈥檚 Excellence in Leadership Program.听

The U.S. Air Force Heritage of America Band has named Professor of Composition Carter Pann the winner of its 鈥淢ach 1鈥� contest鈥攁 composer commission competition that fosters collaboration with civilian composers. Pann will work with the band over the next year on a new composition for brass quintet.听
Associate Professor of Music Education Kelly Parkes has a book under contract with Taylor and Francis publishers鈥擳he Applied Studio Model in Higher Education: Critical Opportunities and Perspectives鈥攖o be published in summer 2024.听

In Dean Birkenkamp鈥檚 book 鈥淭he Many Worlds of David Amram: Renaissance Man of American Music鈥� (2024), Hugh Ragin鈥擟ollege of Music jazz studies lecturer鈥攃ontributed the essay 鈥淣ow is the time as creative manifestation of consciousness鈥� (Chapter 22).听

Assistant Professor of Composition Annika Socolofsky鈥攁 composer and avant-folk vocalist who explores colorful corners of the human voice鈥攔eleased her album 鈥淒on鈥檛 say a word鈥澨�(New Amsterdam Records),. Additionally, the release of her second solo album鈥� in collaboration with the ~Nois Saxophone Quartet鈥攊s a celebration of queer joy and defiance. Socolofsky鈥檚 original three-song cycle riffs on the familiar nursery rhyme 鈥渟ugar, spice, and everything nice, that鈥檚 what little girls are made of,鈥� questioning gender roles and rejoicing in the beauty of queer self-expression and empowerment.听
