Hye-Ryoung Kang
After earning my first PhD in Korea, I obtained a second PhD in the Philosophy Department and a graduate certificate in Women and Gender Studies here at CU. Prior to taking this lecturer position, I was an assistant professor in the Philosophy Department at the University of Nevada, Reno.
My research interest is in global justice with a special emphasis on gender injustice. I am currently working on a book provisionally titled Retrieving Inequality and Injustice in the Global Political Economy, which addresses the question of if and why global inequality matters. I am interested in articulating and defending a non-ideal approach to injustice, and in applying that approach to the analysis of justice and applied ethical issues arising in the context of the global political economy.
I am amazed by the awesome responsibility I have as a teacher when I realize that I am contacting living minds at the highest degree of receptivity and openness to learning. I am passionate about helping students overcome barriers to their academic success and enhance their critical thinking, writing, and problem-solving skills.
In my spare time, I enjoy "forest-bathing" and snowshoeing in the Boulder Open Space Mountain and Parks.
