Special commencement activities will be held by the University of Colorado at Boulder Alumni Association and several schools and colleges in addition to the main commencement exercises on May 16 at 9:30 a.m. in Folsom Stadium.
Graduates of the class of 1947 and earlier will attend the Golden Anniversary Reunion May 15-17, including the main commencement ceremony and luncheon with an address by President John C. Buechner. A banquet, also on May 16, will be addressed by Colorado Supreme Court Justice Luis D. Rovira, a CU graduate in 1948 and 1950. Class of 1947 graduate George Kaub will emcee.
Returning alumni will attend miniclasses taught by Professor Tom Landauer of psychology on 聯The Trouble with Computers,聰 historian Silvia Pettem on the evolution of Boulder, and Professor Dennis Van Gerven of anthropology on life in ancient Sudan.
Following is a schedule of special events in the schools and colleges to honor the graduates, their families and guests.
聲May 15 at 3 p.m. in Macky Auditorium, School of Journalism and Mass Communication. The speaker will be Bob Palmer, long-time Denver newscaster and a 1960 journalism graduate. Palmer will receive an honorary doctor of humane letters degree on May 16.
聲May 15 at 3 p.m. in Grusin Music Hall, College of Music recognitio ceremony for music graduates. The speaker will be Professor Emeritus F. Wayne Scott, a CU alumnus, long-time faculty member, pianist and performer of American popular music.
聲May 15 at 5 p.m. in the Coors Events/Conference Center, College of Business and Administration. The speaker will be Peter Behrendt, chairman of the board of Exabyte Corp., a Boulder-based company that makes computer data storage products. The title of his talk will be 聯Now What?聰
聲May 15 at 7 p.m. in Macky Auditorium, College of Engineering and Applied Science. The Engineering Recognition Ceremony address will be given by James McAnally, president of Lockheed Martin Astronautics Group and a 1959 electrical engineering graduate.
聲May 16 at 2 p.m. in Chautauqua Auditorium, School of Law. The Honorary Order of the Coif will be presented to Marvin Wolf, a 1954 law graduate and executive in the oil and gas exploration industry for more than 50 years. The main speaker will be author and naturalist Terry Tempest Williams, the Shirley Sutton Thomas Visiting Professor of English at the University of Utah.
