The University of Colorado at Boulder聮s Women's Resource Center invites university students, faculty, staff and the public to participate in a candlelight vigil on Thursday, Jan. 29, in remembrance of Susannah Chase, who died Dec. 22 of injuries sustained in an assault Dec. 21.
According to Katherine Moerke, director of CU-Boulder聮s Women聮s Resource Center, the vigil is intended to protest violence, and to help create a safe community. The vigil will begin at 5:30 p.m. at the corner of 18th and Spruce streets.
Following remarks by family, friends and community safety advocates, participants will walk to and along Pearl Street to the Boulder County Courthouse in a silent march. The vigil will close with a poetry reading and singing.
In order to maximize safety, participants are encouraged to take The Hop or RTD, or to carpool or walk in a group to and from the vigil. Participants also are asked to bring their own candles.
The Women's Resource Center is planning the vigil in conjunction with many community and campus groups. For more information, contact the Women's Resource Center at 492-5713 or Boulder County Safehouse at 449-8623.
