Norwegian Ambassador to the United States Tom E. Vraalsen will present a Norwegian perspective on current events in an address Wednesday, Feb. 18, at the University of Colorado at Boulder.
The talk will begin at 11 a.m. in the Forum Room at the University Memorial Center, at Broadway and Euclid Avenue. The event is free and open to the public.
Vraalsen聮s talk is titled 聯Meeting the Humanitarian and Security Challenges Ahead -- A Norwegian Perspective.聰
聯Norway has demonstrated an active commitment to peaceful resolution of conflict, evidenced in its role as mediator in the Oslo Accords and as a participant in several United Nations peace-keeping missions,聰 said Barbara Tennis of the Scandinavian Program.
Although one of the smallest nations in terms of population with 4.5 million people, Norway has one of the highest per capita donations to foreign aid in the world, Tennis said.
In another example of Norway聮s interest in global peace and Third World development, former Prime Minister Gro Harlem Brundtland, who led the 1987 U.N. World Commission on Environment and Development, has been named director of the World Health Organization.
Vraalsen聮s talk is sponsored by the Scandinavian Program of the Department of Germanic and Slavic Languages and Literatures, the College of Arts and Sciences and the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs.
