Carol J. Clover, professor of Rhetoric and Scandinavian at the University of California, Berkeley, will present a talk on "Trials, Lawyers, Tricks, Sagas and Movies" at the University of Colorado at Boulder on Monday, April 26, at 7 p.m. in the Ramaley Biology building, room C250.
Clover specializes in medieval literature and culture, feminist theory, film history and film and popular culture. Her recent publications in film studies have appeared in several international publications. She is currently completing a new book on trials and courtroom drama.
"What amazes me about her is the number of contemporary interests that she is able to address in the broader historical context of culture both ancient and modern," said Adrian Del Caro, chair of the department of German and Slavic languages and literatures. "This is definitely a scholar who has mastered the art of communication with the masses. Her talk should be interesting for a lot of people and for a number of reasons."
A reception for Professor Clover will be held from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the University Memorial Center, room 216 and 217. The lecture, sponsored by the department of Germanic and Slavic languages and literatures, and the Graduate Committee on the Arts and Humanities, is free and open to the public.
