University of Northern Colorado President Hank Brown and former CU Law School Dean Gene Nichol will be among leading legal scholars, politicians and practitioners gathering at the University of Colorado at Boulder School of Law for a Feb. 23-24 symposium on "New Structures for Democracy."

Panelists from around the country will address topics including the regulation of politics, an evaluation of direct democracy, challenges facing current and future voting structures, and a thorough examination of the 2000 U.S. presidential election. The symposium is an annual event organized by the University of Colorado Law Review, a journal of legal scholarship managed and edited by law students and published four times a year.

"Fresh from the controversy of the 2000 presidential election, Americans have shown a renewed interest in and concern about our political institutions," said Allison Eid, CU associate professor of law and the symposium's faculty sponsor.

"Does the Electoral College reflect our founders' intentions regarding election to public office?" asked Eid. "Do individual state voting structures work effectively? Could Florida happen right here in Colorado?

"This symposium will pose these questions to both local and national scholars, politicians and practitioners."

Registration is $75. For information call the Law Review at (303) 492-6145, or register online at .
