Pioneering behavioral scientist Anthony Biglan will discuss how creating nurturing environments is key to raising better young citizens and building a healthier, happier and more prosperous Colorado and society as a whole on Monday, April 27.

Hosted by the Center for the Study and Prevention of Violence at the 精品SM在线影片, the public is invited to hear Biglan鈥檚 talk on 鈥淣urturing Human Well-Being in Colorado鈥 at 7 p.m. in the Jennie Smoly Caruthers Biotechnology Building at 3415 Colorado Ave. on CU-Boulder鈥檚 East Campus.

Biglan is a senior scientist at the Oregon Research Institute and author of the recently released book 鈥淭he Nurture Effect: How Science and Human Behavior Can Improve Our Lives and Our World.鈥 Over the past 30 years, he has conducted extensive research on the development and prevention of child and adolescent problem behavior.

Many of the programs detailed in Biglan鈥檚 research and in his book directly align with the research and initiatives of the Center for the Study and Prevention of Violence at CU-Boulder, said Beverly Kingston, the center鈥檚 director.

Biglan鈥檚 research hits home in Colorado where our center and the prevention community are working to identify and effectively implement proven programs, practices and policies that contribute to creating the conditions that will lead human beings to thrive,鈥 Kingston said. 鈥淢ost people don鈥檛 realize how much we actually know about what really works to prevent violence and promote positive youth development.

The Center for the Study and Prevention of Violence is a research program of the Institute of Behavioral Science at CU-Boulder. It was founded in 1992 and aims to bridge the gap between research and practice to ensure that the best that is known from prevention research reaches those who need it most.听It offers resources and technical assistance to those committed to understanding and preventing violence and problem behaviors and promoting positive youth development.

Biglan鈥檚 visit to Colorado is co-hosted by CU-Boulder鈥檚 Center for the Study and Prevention of Violence and Colorado State University鈥檚 Prevention Research Center.
