10 Things to do this Week

Hello to all my fellow Buffs. Happy Mardi Gras and Valentine鈥檚 Day and everything else. You may notice some fun, romantic date options mixed in with our events list this week. Good weather is imminent, so get out and enjoy it! I am Sarah Ellsworth: IPHY major, Boulder native, and event connoisseur, writing to you from the comfort of beautiful CU-Boulder on all of your weekly opportunities for community involvement, educational whatnot and supreme fun. Wednesday, Feb. 10

Boulder conversations: Mark Plaatjes.

Join Mark Plaatjes, South African marathon 1993 world champion and physical therapist, for a conversation on his remarkable personal story at the Museum of Boulder (1206 Euclid) from 5 to 7 p.m. Tickets are $15 and food will be provided. .

Thursday, Feb. 11

Backcountry film festival.听The Colorado Mountain Club welcomes you to the 11th听Backcountry Film Festival, celebrating the beauty of being outdoors and alive in this beautiful world with pro and amateur films. The event takes place at Neptune Mountaineering (633 S. Broadway) at 7 p.m. and tickets are $12. .

Meet Buff Employers- City and Government Day.听Opportunity arises for those of you out there with hopes of landing government jobs. UMC 235 will house employers from every level of government seeking student and alum applicants between 4 and 7 p.m. Bring a resume and don鈥檛 forget to dress nicely!听.

Friday, Feb. 12

Boulder Philharmonic: Spheres of influence with Anne Akiko Meyers, violin.听The incredible Boulder Phil and the revered violinist Anne Akiko Meyers take the stage in Macky at 7:30 p.m. with their elegant presentation of classical music that has been widely regarded as some of the most influential and romantic music of all time, including Tchaikovsky, Mendelssohn and Shostakovich. Student tickets are $5. .

Crazy, Stupid Love听蝉肠谤别别苍颈苍驳.听In honor of Valentine鈥檚 Day, Program Council presents feel good "rom-com"听Crazy Stupid Love, starring Ryan Gosling, Steve Carell and Emma Stone at 8 p.m. in Chem 140. Admission and popcorn are free to students with a Buff OneCard. Bonus points if you dress in classy attire. .

Saturday, Feb. 13

Winter tracking day trip.听The Rec Center is more than just an awesome place to work out; the outdoor education program will be offering a great small-group trip to learn the basics of winter tracking this weekend. The fee is $30 and you will have to register ASAP to not miss out on this chance to get outside and learn more about the beautiful state we live in. .

Round the world dance party.听Grab a partner or a friend or just go by yourself, but make sure you鈥檙e at this awesome dance party where you will learn salsa, Ethiopian dance and Western style dance moves for free! Food and fun will be provided in UMC 457 courtesy of the Dennis Small Cultural Center between 4 and 6 p.m. .

Sunday, Feb. 14

Beautiful Human Lies.听Renowned hip-hop choreographer Rennie Harris brings this beautiful display of movement to the University Theater stage at 2 p.m. for your enjoyment. The show has underlying social commentary and will electrify your imagination and intellect. Tickets are $14.听.

Tuesday, Feb. 16

An evening with Edward Snowden.听Former CIA employee and NSA/GCHQ whistleblower Edward Snowden will be communicating with Macky Auditorium and answering questions via video chat at 7 p.m. Ron Suskind, Pulitzer-winning Wall Street Journal reporter will be moderating the event, in which Snowden will discuss his experiences. This event is sold out. .

Resource fair.听Every resource center you could possibly want at CU will be congregating in one place (Glenn Miller Ballroom) from noon to 4 p.m. for your convenient perusal. Resources include everything from academic skills resources to career and volunteer opportunities, and representatives from the organizations will be happy to answer any questions. .
