Chancellor Philip P. DiStefano

The University of Colorado Student Government has issued an opinion that affects the results of听the听recently conducted student government election.听As chancellor,听I recognize and听fully听support the right of the students to elect their own leadership and to administer the processes for those elections.

That听authority听is听delegated to them by the Board of Regents, and the Board of Regents has determined that student governments听on each campus are to be responsible to the chancellor of that campus.听I have the responsibility to ensure that the University of Colorado Student Government has conducted its affairs consistent with campus policies and procedures, the laws of the Board of Regents, and the laws of Colorado.听

Due to the recent confusion and challenges to the election that have been raised,听I will review the听processes employed and the听decisions made to this point to ensure that they听were administered appropriately. I will conduct my review expeditiously听in conjunction with the vice chancellor for student affairs and the university鈥檚 legal counsel听and without any preference to any of the candidates.听

My goal is to听ensure that we have a transparent process that conforms to campus policies听and procedures and that all such elections are conducted fairly and openly. I look forward to听working with the leaders of CU Student Government to advance the needs of all CU-Boulder students.

Philip P. DiStefano, Chancellor
