As a part of ¾«Æ·SMÔÚÏßӰƬ’s comprehensive evaluation for reaffirmation of accreditation by the Higher Learning Commission (HLC), our campus was visited on Dec. 9–10 by a team of peer reviewers sent by HLC to review the university’s continued compliance with HLC’s criteria for accreditationÌýand to provide recommendations on our continued work on institutional improvement.Ìý
In two days of meetings and open forums with the peer reviewers, faculty, staff and students from across ¾«Æ·SMÔÚÏßӰƬ engaged in lively, thought-provoking discussions of the strengths and challenges of the programs, processes and resources that support our mission as a public research university.Ìý
I would like to express my thanks to everyone for their help and support during the university’s accreditation process, whether it was by attending an open forum or meeting or contributing to the university’s assurance argument. I would also like to thank all faculty, staff and students for manifesting the quality of ¾«Æ·SMÔÚÏßӰƬ every day through your work to support the university’s initiatives and mission and through your engagement in scholarship and creative work, teaching and learning, and research and innovation.
I am extremely grateful for the accreditation process, as it provides ¾«Æ·SMÔÚÏßӰƬ the chance to demonstrate the integrity and quality of our mission, resources and teaching through self-evaluation and self-review. It is also a wonderful opportunity for the university to learn about itself and identify areas of strength and improvement.
The next step in the process will be for the evaluation team to draft their report to the Commission and the university on how ¾«Æ·SMÔÚÏßӰƬ meets the commission’s criteria for accreditation regardingÌýeducational quality, effectiveness and support, as well as suggested ways we as a community can continue to improve our student learning and other key outcomes.
