Colorado Shakespeare Festival To Visit Westcliffe

High school students in Strasburg, Limon and Cheyenne Wells will see Shakespeare taken from the page to the stage this month by the University of Colorado at Boulder聮s acclaimed Colorado Shakespeare Festival. Two professional actors with the Colorado Shakespeare Festival will perform scenes, songs and sonnets in a program titled, "Boy Meets Girl Meets Shakespeare," in a tour of the three communities April 27 and April 28. The actors will begin their tour with a performance at Cheyenne Wells High School, starting at 1 p.m. on April 27.

CU-Boulder Student Wins Goldwater Scholarship

A University of Colorado at Boulder student has been named a Barry M. Goldwater Scholar through a selective national merit scholarship competition. Alan Arrowsmith, a junior majoring in biochemistry and mathematics from Waterloo, Ontario, was one of 316 students awarded scholarships this year by the Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship and Excellence in Education Foundation. Arrowsmith will receive up to $7,500 for his tuition, fees, books and room and board expenses for the 1998-99 academic year.

CU-Boulder Students Participate In Events During National Volunteer Week

National Volunteer Week honors people who participate in volunteer community service and calls attention to the on-going need for individuals and groups to serve in their communities. Preliminary Results Positive For CU Faculty/Staff Ecopass

University of Colorado at Boulder faculty and staff drive to campus less, hold fewer campus parking permits and ride RTD, Skip and Hop buses more since the university initiated an EcoPass program for its employees Jan. 1. The pilot program allows unlimited free rides on all RTD buses, including the Skip and Hop services, for more than 5,600 full-time and part-time faculty and staff at CU-Boulder. The program was made possible through a partnership between the university, the city of Boulder and RTD.

Four CU-Boulder Faculty Win Guggenheim Fellowships

Four University of Colorado at Boulder faculty have received prestigious Guggenheim fellowships for the 1998-99 academic year. The grants were announced this week by the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation in New York. CU-Boulder faculty receiving the awards are Mitchell Begelman, professor and chair of astrophysical and planetary sciences; Albert Chong, associate professor of fine arts; Steven Epstein, professor of history; and Russell Monson, professor of environmental, population and organismic biology.
