A photo of a honeybee sitting on a purple flower

The Evening Shift

鈥淚n this image, a honeybee is highlighted in a delicate scene using a strobe light. This photograph demanded a lot of patience (a couple of hours, to be exact), awkward angles and an appreciation for how fast bees fly from flower to flower. While most bees work between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., this worker was out in the evening, which made for softer lighting and cooler temperatures. The spiky textures and bright colors in this image tell the story of a beautiful and essential job. Let this be(e) a reminder that bees are often misunderstood and painted in a menacing light. In reality, they are tranquil creatures.鈥
