The following requirements apply to this program:

  • Must apply and be accepted into the program
  • Students will be required to be in Good Academic Standing in the College of Engineering in Applied Science to apply for a position.
    • This means that degree-seeking students should be meeting CU cumulative, semester, and major GPAs of at least听2.0
  • Must reply to offer and accept offer
  • Must attend introductory meeting in the fall
  • Must work as directed by faculty member and/or graduate student mentor and make a听good-faith effort to work approximately 10 hours/week spring and fall semester.
  • Must attend all mandatory seminars (usually 2-3 each semester)
  • Must write a 2-3 page Project Summary听due after fall break outlining your plans听for work
  • Must present a PowerPoint Presentation听in March
  • Must participate in the Research Symposium in mid鈥怉pril
  • Must complete听surveys regarding your听experiences in the program

  • Submit a professional cover letter and resume detailing your qualifications for the research positions
  • Respond in your cover letter to any requirements mentioned in the project listing - e.g.,听if the project says you must have taken Material and Energy Balance, tell me that you听have done so
  • Select a diversity of projects 鈥 be sure they are ones of interest to you, but try not to听select three from one faculty member as we may not give more than one student to听each professor
  • Select five projects 鈥 if you are only interested in one or two, then by all means don鈥檛听apply for ones that are not interesting to you, however, applying to five will allow me听maximum flexibility when considering you for a position.
  • Contact the professor offering the project听to learn more about it and see if it is a good match. If you听ask intelligent questions and听make a good impression, the faculty member may ask for you. All things being equal, it will generally improve your chances, as we like to听give this opportunity to as many students as possible.

  • Sometimes a faculty member will recommend you for their position, you still must听apply and write a cover letter addressing your qualifications for the program to be听considered
  • No late applications will be accepted.
  • Applicants will be notified in early July of placement decisions.听
