The Korey Wise Innocence Project (KWIP) works to exonerate people who have been wrongfully convicted of crimes in Colorado. Summer interns screen applications from people in prison who are claiming innocence and seeking KWIP's help.
All law students are welcome to apply for a summer internship with KWIP. Interns primarily screen new applications from people in Colorado prisons claiming innocence. They gather a range of materials -- including appellate decisions, briefs, other court filings, and media coverage -- and then draft a memo that summarizes the case and identifies potential avenues for developing new evidence of innocence. Interns then present the case to KWIP's staff with a recommendation on whether the case should be accepted for a full record review and possible investigation/litigation. Interns also may have the opportunity to work with KWIP's staff attorneys on cases in active investigation and/or litigation.

KWIP is looking for a work-study student to assist with the implementation of their program Legislation Inside (LI). LI is a program comprised of representatives who are currently incarcerated throughout the Colorado Department of Corrections. We meet weekly (via Google Meets) to learn about Colorado state policy, brainstorm and develop ideas for new bills, offer input to other policy stakeholder groups, and work with Representatives and Senators in the Colorado General Assembly to advocate for prison and sentence reform.
The work-study student would assist with the day-to-day logistics of this program, including but not limited to, communicating, and getting information to the incarcerated representatives, assisting in scheduling meetings with different community groups, assisting with scheduling guest speakers for our weekly Google Meets meetings, policy and legal research, and accompanying the facilitators on in-person prison visits. Because of the nature of policy work, we are looking for a student who is able to work in a fast-paced environment, comfortable communicating with incarcerated people and Department of Corrections staff, and open to being flexible on projects and deadlines. Those with diverse backgrounds (including those directly-impacted by incarceration) are encouraged to apply.

Job Description/Summary: 听This is an in-person administrative support position at the KWIP office in the Wolf Law Building. KWIP works to exonerate the wrongfully convicted in Colorado while also pushing for reforms to prevent such injustices at the front end.
Job Duties:
Student assistants process incoming mail from individuals in Colorado prisons with claims of factual innocence. Student assistants also receive training and then work with KWIP attorneys to build files for cases under review. This entails learning to use platforms such as Westlaw and Bloomberg Law and then pulling court opinions, appellate briefs, and other materials. Student assistants also provide general administrative support to KWIP's staff attorneys.

Job Title: Adjunct Professor
Each semester, Colorado Law hires adjunct professors to teach courses at the law school.听 The courses change from semester to semester, depending on our curricular needs.听 We hire adjuncts for our J.D., M.S.L. in Ethics and Compliance, and L.L.M. programs.听 While we hire to teach courses in a wide range of areas, we regularly hire adjuncts in areas in which experience as a practicing attorney is especially helpful, such as Trial Advocacy, Legal Ethics and Professionalism, and Transactional Drafting. Job Title:听American Indian Law Program (AILP) Faculty Fellow
Job Description/Summary: 听The American Indian Law Program (鈥淎ILP鈥) at the University of Colorado Law School seeks applicants for the position of AILP Fellow for a 1 year term (possibly renewable for a 2nd year), beginning approximately June 1, 2025. This full-time position offers the opportunity to work in academic and practice contexts with AILP faculty, students, and community members in support of American Indian and Indigenous Peoples鈥 rights. The position is well-suited for a recent law school graduate with experience in the fields of Tribal law, federal Indian law, and international human rights, who is ultimately planning听 a career in legal practice, policy, or academia. Successful applicants will have top-notch academic credentials in the above-referenced fields of law, demonstrated experience working with Tribal leaders, lawyers, and community members, as well as leadership and administrative skills.
Job Duties:
The Fellow supports the AILP Director and faculty members in both legal/academic and institution-building work. Legal/academic work may include research听and writing of memoranda, articles, reports, and briefs, support for classroom teaching, as well as preparation for and participation in meetings with our constituents. Institution building work will听include support for the Native American Law Students Association, conference and event planning, student recruiting, community outreach, grant writing/fundraising,听publicity, and alumni and community relations. The Fellow will receive training in University budget, expense, and reimbursement processes, and have significant responsibilities in this regard, as well as technology and communications. A significant portion of the Fellow鈥檚 time will be devoted to听, a joint initiative with the Native American Rights Fund to advance education and advocacy regarding the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples.
The AILP at Colorado Law envisions 鈥淚ndian Law鈥 as a web of Indigenous Peoples鈥 laws, customs, and traditions, federal Indian law, and international human rights. We have a rich tradition of engagement with American Indian tribes, national governments of the United States and other countries, as well as the Organization of American States and the United Nations. Led by Professors James Anaya, Kristen听Carpenter, Sarah Krakoff, Christina Stanton, and Vanessa Racehorse, we offer a听full curriculum, clinic, and certificate in American Indian law, and an active program of research, pro bono听work, and conferences, providing unparalleled learning opportunities. Our AILP alumni are practicing in tribal and听federal governments, private and public interest law firms, and various international organizations.听We also collaborate on interdisciplinary research with the 听University of Colorado鈥檚 Center for Native American and Indigenous Studies.

Job Title:听Faculty Fellow with a working title of Legal Advisor to the United Nations Special Rapporteur on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples
Job Description/Summary: 听
The American Indian Law Program (AILP) is a program of the University of Colorado Law School (Colorado Law) dedicated to education and public service in American Indian and Indigenous Peoples Law. The AILP coordinates among and offers support to: doctrinal and clinical classes in American Indian and Indigenous Peoples Law, research activities of five full-time faculty, one fellow, one librarian, and others, all students pursuing AILP coursework and the AILP Certificate, the Native American Law Students Association and other students, community relationships including partnerships with the Native American Rights Fund and Indian Tribes, extensive engagement at the United Nations, career opportunities and mentorship for students, research, publication, and service by faculty, students, and staff, and numerous other events and projects in Tribal, national, and international venues.
The Legal Advisor will support the AILP in its collaboration with the United Nations Special Rapporteur on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples,听Dr. Albert Barume. Law school students, under the supervision of AILP faculty members, will assist the Special Rapporteur in analyzing alleged violations of the rights of Indigenous Peoples, and prepare draft allegation letters to implicated duty-bearers, including national governments. Another element is the preparation of background analysis and input for the Special Rapporteur鈥檚 country visits, as relevant and agreed by the parties. In addition, students and staff at Colorado Law will be involved in providing input for the Special Rapporteur鈥檚 thematic reports and other activities, including UN meetings (e.g., UN Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues and Expert Mechanism on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples), panels, conferences, and other events. Faculty and students will have opportunities to conduct such work in the context of AILP courses, including seminars and clinical classes, and as research assistants if additional work is required.
In this context, the Special Rapporteur seeks to employ a fulltime legal advisor, to be based at Colorado Law, to coordinate among faculty, students, and staff, and further assist the UN Special Rapporteur on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples in his work as described below. The initial term of employment will be for one year, with opportunities for renewal as needs and funding allow.
听
Job Duties:
Provide legal advice on cases of alleged violations of Indigenous Peoples鈥 rights, country situations and thematic issues, as requested and reviewed by the UN Special Rapporteur on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples. More specifically, the Legal Advisor will be expected to:
- Coordinate among Indigenous Peoples, the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), and the AILP at Colorado Law and other stakeholders, as requested by the Special Rapporteur.
- Establish and maintain a dedicated archive of cases being processed the AILP, upon request of the Special Rapporteur, and ensure regular updates, coordination and communications, especially with OHCHR.
- Ensure that the听principles and rules of confidentiality, as enshrined in the Code of Conduct for UN Special Procedures and the requirements for confidentiality of the American Indian Law Clinic are reflected and upheld in the work flows and modalities established.
- Coordinate with AILP faculty on projects (especially 鈥渃ommunications鈥 on human rights violations, thematic reports, country reports) with which students can assist with to help fulfill the mandate of the Special Rapporteur. Note that 鈥渃ommunication鈥 is the UN鈥檚 technical term for a complaint alleging human rights violations.
- Provide presentations to classes in both American Indian Law and International Human Rights about the mandate and current projects of the Special Rapporteur, as well as broader aspects of current practice in international human rights law.
- Work with clinical faculty and students in their support for the communications pillar of the mandate.
- Work with doctrinal faculty and students providing research assistance to country visits and thematic reports made to the UN General Assembly and the Human Rights Council.
- Help plan panel discussions (鈥渟ide events鈥) in conjunction with the American Indian Law Program and The Implementation Project to highlight the work of the Special Rapporteur and Colorado Law faculty, staff, and students.
- Attend high level meetings with Nation representatives and Permanent Missions to assist the Special Rapporteur in planning country visits and addressing communication concerns, while representing and highlighting the work of Colorado Law faculty, staff, and students.
- Assist faculty, students, and others in developing awareness of, and making contributions to, publications of Special Rapporteur.
- Coordinate the work flows between the UN Special Rapporteur on the rights of
- Accompany the Special Rapporteur on missions, visits and events and provide input and assistance, as requested.
- Participate in weekly coordination meetings of the external team of the UN Special Rapporteur on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples with OHCHR, and assist in maintaining an overview of agreements, workplans, assignments and events, as agreed at these meetings.
- Coordinate visits, lectures, classes, both in person and online, of the Special Rapporteur to Colorado Law.
- Other tasks as discussed and agreed with the AILP and the UN Special Rapporteur on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples.
Job Qualifications:
- A Juris Doctor degree, with demonstrated specialization in International Law and Indigenous Peoples鈥 Law.
- License to practice law in Colorado or eligible to be admitted on motion to the Colorado bar.
- Two+ years of experience in Indigenous Peoples鈥 law, policy, and human rights practice
