After discussing the basic information about a concern, OIEC analyzes the incident to determine if a formal听or听adaptable resolution process is most appropriate. Generally, it is the decision of the complainant (person subjected to misconduct) to move forward or not.听
If the complainant听chooses not to engage with any resolution process, OIEC must weigh that decision against the university鈥檚 obligation to protect the community.听In rare cases, OIEC may be obligated to take action听regardless of a complainant鈥檚 wishes, to ensure campus safety. However, the complainant is not required to participate in or cooperate with a resolution process.
There is no time limit for addressing a complaint under university policy. Whether the individual听participates in听a resolution process, documentation is maintained, support and safety measures are discussed, and confidential resources are offered.
