OVERVIEW OF CU BOULDER NSSLHA CHAPTER

NSSLHA ¾«Æ·SMÔÚÏßӰƬ Chapter is a recognized student group within the Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences department at CU. This chapter of NSSLHA has been recognized by CU as an on campus student group since 2008.

Our chapter’s members are dynamic participants in the larger professional community. ¾«Æ·SMÔÚÏßӰƬ’s NSSHLA has made an annual commitment to raise funds for speech and hearing-related causes in the Boulder-Denver area. In 2010, this chapter raised sufficient funds to support the purchase of 2 FM microphone and receiver systems for Sanchez Elementary. ¾«Æ·SMÔÚÏßӰƬ’s NSSLHA has also raised and made donations to Denver Reads, Treacher Collins Connection, and the CU SLHS Department. NSSLHA has helped to fund a cleft palate surgery for a child whose family did not have health insurance. Twice a year, NSSLHA hosts a party in the Child Learning Center (CLC), the department preschool. The preschoolers and their families enjoy an evening of cookie decorating, storybook reading, craft activities, and games.

In addition to annual events and fundraisers, NSSLHA volunteers at community events such as the Scottish Rite Holiday Party for the families participating in speech, language and hearing therapy at Children’s Hospital and Family Night in the CLC. NSSLHA also hosts informative on-campus events like the Graduate Student Panel for undergraduates, the Speech Language Pathologist Assistant (SLP-A) panel, and lectures from visiting professionals. Your CU NSSLHA chapter membership also contributes to funding and supporting fellow CU NSSLHA members in attending the annual ASHA convention.
