What is food security?
Having reliable access to sufficient quantity of affordable and nutritious food.
What is food insecurity?
The Basic Needs Center defines food insecurity as experiencing a lack of access to affordable, nutritious and culturally relevant food in a quantity that supports the active and healthy lifestyle students need to be successful.
Food insecurity can be caused by:
- Financial barriers
- Schedule challenges (out of class/work too late, other responsibilities impact availability)
- Lack of resources (no food banks close by, transportation or knowledge of resources)
How to refer a student
Anyone can refer a student to the BNC, including staff, faculty or other students. You can make referrals by contacting us:
