Campus Lecture Series Concludes With Bocks' Presentation, Book Signing

CU-Boulder Professor Emeritus of biology Jane Bock and Professor of biology Carl Bock will read from their newest book, "The View from Bald Hill; Thirty Years in an Arizona Grassland," on Wednesday, May 10, in the final program of this year's Campus Lecture Series. The presentation will look at issues regarding the protection and restoration of the nation's grasslands and will examine the dynamics of grasslands in the absence of livestock. A book signing will follow the presentation, which begins at 7:30 p.m. in the Humanities Building, room 150.

Undergraduate Research Program Takes CU Student To Top Of World

In November 1999, CU-Boulder senior Sarah Blakeslee found herself in a place she never would have imagined. She was standing atop 18,900-foot Antisana Peak in Ecuador, part of an international science team studying a retreating South American glacier. To get there, she and several CU-Boulder graduate students and faculty members flew to Guayaquil, Ecuador, then took a nine-hour van ride to a 15,600-foot base camp on Antisana. There, members of the international team began ferrying hundreds of pounds of equipment to the summit.

CU-Boulder Launches Evening-Only MBA Program

The University of Colorado at Boulder College of Business is launching an evening-only MBA program in August with classes designed for the working professional. Classes will be taught in a lock-step, 33-month schedule and will complement professionalsÂ’ career-related activities. "By combining studentsÂ’ industry experience with a cutting-edge curriculum, the CU-Boulder Professional MBA Program provides todayÂ’s managers with the knowledge and skills to successfully lead Colorado in the 21st century," said College of Business Dean Steven Manaster.

CU-Boulder McNair Scholars Awarded In National Competition

Seven CU-Boulder students in the McNair Scholars Program came out on top this year in the oral presentation competition at the Rocky Mountain McNair Scholars Research Symposium and Graduate Education Conference held April 14-16. The fifth annual conference, sponsored by CU-Boulder, Colorado State University, the University of Northern Colorado and the University of Wyoming, featured students from 28 institutions.

Discovery Learning Center To House New Space Experiments Institute

Facilities for the assembly and test of space flight experiments and hardware -- in addition to other leading edge research -- will get a boost with the construction of the new Discovery Learning Center by CU-BoulderÂ’s College of Engineering and Applied Science. CU-Boulder Heritage Center Has Plenty To Offer Astronaut Buffs

The University of Colorado at BoulderÂ’s 50-year involvement in AmericaÂ’s space program comes to life in the CU Heritage Center, a museum packed with exhibits depicting the universityÂ’s history. The space gallery, one of seven galleries tucked away on the third floor of Old Main, displays numerous articles taken into space by CUÂ’s 15 astronaut alumni. Visitors also can learn about the universityÂ’s contributions to space exploration and the technology that dots the solar system after CUÂ’s 50-year involvement in the quest to explore and learn about space.

New High-Speed Fiber Optic Network Connects CU, Federal Laba And City

A new, high-speed fiber-optic network capable of sending the equivalent of scores of encyclopedia sets per second is up and running in Boulder, connecting CU researchers with colleagues at major federal laboratories and the City of Boulder. "This joint project is an excellent example of the goals of the administrationÂ’s Information Technology Initiative," said U.S. Congressman Mark Udall, who spoke at a news briefing on the subject at CU-Boulder April 28. "ItÂ’s a wonderful model for partnering among local, state and federal government agencies."
