Moe's Broadway Bagel Offers Free Bagels During Book Drive Feb. 26 - March 2

The University of Colorado at Boulder Office of Community Affairs and Moe's Broadway Bagel are sponsoring a book drive at all four Moe's stores Feb. 26 through March 2 in connection with Read Across America Day on March 2. People who bring in new or slightly used children's books to any one of the three Boulder stores or the Denver store, at 550 Grant St., will receive a free bagel and cream cheese. The offer is limited to one bagel per customer per visit.

Peter Simons Named Director Of CU-Boulder Parent Relations

Ron Stump, vice chancellor for student affairs at the University of Colorado at Boulder, has appointed Peter Simons to the position of director of the Office of Parent Relations. The appointment recently was approved by Chancellor Byyny and Simons assumed the position Feb. 19. Simons replaces former director Leasa Weimer, who became student programs director at the University Memorial Center last semester.

Fiske Planetarium To Explore Nature Of Mysterious Organic Molecules In Space

Finding the fundamental building blocks of life in outer space will be the topic of "Organic Molecules in Space," a live show at the University of Colorado at Boulder's Fiske Planetarium on Friday, March 2, and Tuesday, March 6, at 7:30 p.m. Astrophysical and planetary sciences Professor Theodore Snow will present evidence that large organic (carbon-based) molecules are common in space. "There is a lot of speculation as to what the molecules are, but precious little definitive identification," Snow said.

"Disability Imagery In Citizenship" Is Topic Of March 6 Lecture

Disability studies scholar and author Douglas Baynton will lecture on "Disability Imagery in Citizenship Debates: Slavery, Suffrage and Immigration Restriction" at the University of Colorado at Boulder on Tuesday, March 6. The free event will begin at 7 p.m. in the University Memorial Center's Aspen Room.

CU-Boulder Blood Drive Set For Feb. 27 To March 1

The University Memorial Center and Libby Hall at the University of Colorado at Boulder will host the 2001 Spring Boulder Campus Blood Drive. Open to the public, the blood drive will be in the UMC Ballroom Feb. 27 and Feb. 28 from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., and March 1 in Libby Hall in the Pit room from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Those who want to reserve a specific time slot should call (303) 492-5473 to make a reservation, or visit the blood drive table outside the UMC Forum Room Feb. 19 through Feb. 23, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. People can also donate blood without an appointment.

CU-Boulder Adds 14 New Study Abroad Programs

The University of Colorado at Boulder has added 14 new programs to the choices undergraduate students have to study around the globe, including six in the increasingly popular destination of Australia. Other offerings include the first Study Abroad program in Norway and the first university-based program in India. The programs will start this summer and fall. The deadline to apply for any summer, fall or academic year program is March 1.

CU Wizard To Explore Biochemistry For Kids

University of Colorado at Boulder Assistant Professor Deborah Wuttke will perform several experiments and set off a minor explosion during her CU Wizards show "Biochemistry for Kids." The free hourlong show will be on Saturday, Feb. 24, at 9:30 a.m. in Cristol Chemistry room 140. CU Wizards is an annual series that introduces topics in astronomy, chemistry and physics and is intended primarily for students in grades five through nine.
